In 1998, Sophia Jewell Campbell was encouraged by a therapist to address her past trauma by "painting her pain and visions." She continued painting throughout her life, using this healing tool to shift from fear and hiding to love and connection, from the unmet need of safety to a connection with life.

In this visual memoir, Sophia has paired twenty-six paintings with original poems depicting this transformation. Using the Non-violent Communication Feelings and Feeds Inventory to label each piece, Sophia bravely shares her journey with the intention of creating hope.
