HOW DOES YOUR ART ANSWER THE CALL “HERSTORY”
The paintings that I create today are absolutely a reflection of the life I’ve lived, those who’ve influenced me, the feelings I own and the strength I feel from being exactly who I am. A soul destined to create but plagued with infertility of body led me to find creation externally. It took many years of ups and downs with anxiety and depression, processing loss and life’s general challenges to come out on the other end ready to heal. Mental health was a catalyst in discovering the coexisting peace and energy that came from letting my heart move paint around on canvas. My head had always tried to be “this” or “that” kind of artist, but I had to be ready to try something completely different to find what I was looking for. Through faith, loving family and friends and time, I was able to finally see light and energy and emotion in color and shapes. It brings me great joy to translate life’s beautiful moments into movement and texture. It is my hope to bring that light to others through my art.
BIO & ARTIST STATEMENT
Share Etherington studied photography, drawing, painting and art history in high school and college and began painting with acrylics regularly in 2018. Share works as a people leader for a software company and loves her creative outlet at her home studio in Provo, Utah.
Share has been creating since she can remember and loves to dabble in all varieties from home tiling projects to digital photo editing. Discovering acrylics was the lightbulb and the medium Share had been searching out for a couple decades. Through trial and error, she found her style unexpectedly abstract. Share describes her work as effervescent abstraction, as it expresses an appealingly lively quality of brushstrokes and movement. As an intuitive painter, she is inspired by van Gogh, a wide variety of music and the beauty of the written word. In fact, you may notice that many of the titles for Share’s pieces come from her favorite music and books. Her goal as an artist is to capture the energy, light and emotion of a moment in time.
When not working or getting herself covered in paint, Share loves spending time with her husband, toddler and 3 dogs, drinking Diet Dr. Pepper, singing karaoke with her best friends, reading or planning trips to see the world.
