Have you always wanted to try painting in oil but have never picked up a brush? Or did you paint in the past and want a refresher? Check out this course and see if oil is your medium - we have serious fun! Learning to paint well is an enjoyable and life-long journey, so why not start now? The creative process is not only pure joy, it’s finding our inner power that is so necessary for our well-being and the good energy we send out into the world.

I have been a professional artist since 1996. Since 1992 I have studied with dozens of renowned artists through classes, workshops, books, and videos, and I never stop learning and growing and honing my skills. I love the mood created by the flow of light and the emergence of deep shadows. I love the challenge of recreating that mood with beautiful pieces of paint. I delight in watching the magic unfold and sharing it with others.

One of my greatest joys comes from sharing what I have learned from many fine artists in classes and workshops and watching my students grow and discover the inner power that comes from creative pursuits. I like to nurture the beginners and challenge the intermediates to help them hone their craft and reach into themselves for their own vision and voice as artists. I taught weekly oil painting classes for three years at the School of Light and Color in Fair Oaks, CA, and for seven years for the Sun City Lincoln Hills Association in Lincoln, CA, and several workshops through various venues. I Love to Help You Shine Your Light!

This weekly class is structured to give beginners the basics and intermediate artists a springboard to a higher level in their work. During the first four weeks, we start with exercises in basic color mixing and handling of the brushes and paint and then move on to creating simple forms that will become the basis for just about any subject you’ll ever want to paint. Plenty of discussions, demonstrations, and paint-along exercises to help you get comfortable and have fun. In the following optional eight weeks, we’ll continue with more advanced lessons in concept, composition, and techniques to refine your work, plus plenty of time to paint your own choice of subject matter and explore your own vision and voice as an artist. When the twelve weeks are up, students who wish to continue will have the options of either starting again at the beginning with the basic lessons that need to be revisited from time to time, they can paint on their own with minimal instruction, or they can sit out the first four weeks and join us again for the advanced studies.
